Nashville, TN

Summer reunion with friends from elementary school days in South Korea.

Thanks to social media, I’ve been able to keep in touch with my friends from elementary school in South Korea. We’ve been scattered across the US since moving away from Busan between 15-20 years ago! Someone sparked the topic of a reunion and we all jumped at the chance, quickly agreeing to meet in Nashville, TN. I was excited to meet my friends I haven’t seen in over 20 years and explore a new city.

We rented a charming house on Airbnb for the weekend to fit all seven of us. We started off our first day together by getting Korean food for take-out and reminiscing about old times. It was like no time had passed since the last time we were all together, that’s pretty magical and special.

There was nothing but love and laughter this weekend. Any awkwardness or hesitancies melted away instantly after we stepped into this house. No conversation topic was off limits and we were so carefree in sharing our stories of triumph and tribulations. It helped me broaden my perspective on how different everyone’s lives can be and I developed a great sense of respect for each one of them who endured through tough times with strength. It was incredibly inspiring to be surrounded by such an amazing group of women!

Some of us who arrived earlier in the day decided to check out the neighborhood and stopped by The Treehouse for drinks and light bites. The cold can of beer on a warm and humid summer afternoon was so refreshing! I had forgotten about how and humid summers living in San Francisco for so long.

We only had one full day to hang out and made the most of it by renting a monster truck to ride around downtown Nashville, blasting inappropriate music, dancing, and drinking all on the truck bed. I had never ridden on a truck and this was quite the experience. But the fun was probably magnified because I was with this group of girls <3

The truck tour dropped us off by the river off of Broadway street, a main area lined with bars, stores, and restaurants. We decided to continue our shenanigans and go bar hopping after an adventure looking for restrooms. We stumbled into Coyote Ugly, fulfilling our childhood dreams after watching the movie of the same name. I still remember all the lyrics to “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” by LeAnn Rimes. Classic.

We ended our short, weekend getaway with a bottomless mimosa and buffet brunch at Sinema!
